WildCare Inc. Benefit at Upland Brewery’s Banquet Space

wildcare-upland-poster-5I don’t even really know how to start this blog post. I’ve been scanning through Wildcare Inc.’s Facebook page, looking at the photos, and I’m absolutely blown away by the work they do and the wildlife lives they’ve saved.

Since it’s incorporation in 2001, Wildcare Inc. has taken in over 12,000 animals such as wild birds, reptiles and wild mammals. They not only provide professional care to sick, injured and orphaned wildlife so they can be returned to their outdoor homes, but they also provide education outreach programs that focus on the value of sharing the planet with our wild neighbors.

On Sunday, May 20th, from 4pm-10pm, Wildcare Inc will be bringing along two of their wildlife animals to the Upland Banquet Space for us to  meet, and we’ll also learn more about their mission. We’ll be meeting Valentino and Skylar (Eurasian Barn Owl and Arctic Fox [WildCare Inc. Ambassadors]).

You’ll be able to win over $100 in prizes, catch a sneak peak dance performance of Crystal Olry and Mike DeSantos (Dancing with the Celebs of Bloomington contestants), and also enjoy a little dance party of your own with DJ Wally Wonder.

Hors d’oeuvres and beer will be provided by Upland. All beer proceeds go directly to WildCare Inc.

We’d absolutely love to have you join us. All ages WELCOME! Please let us know if you have any questions.

Upland’s First Friday with Indy Convergence Featuring Haiti Artists

554380_10150699946385814_193225760813_9401328_105931984_nWe think this coming Upland’s First Friday is going to be pretty special for a couple of reasons. First off, the nonprofit organization we’re teaming up with is Indy Convergence. Indy Convergence is dedicated to the growth of artists nationally and locally. Once a year, Indy Convergence brings together a group of professional artists from around the country to collaborate on cross-disciplinary projects. They seek out professional artists with a passion for exploration and a unique talent or approach that will contribute to the ensemble. Learn more about them here.

This year, Indy Convergence held their inaugural event in Haiti. They also brought back 25 original paintings from Haiti that are oil on canvas that range from portraits and landscapes to abstract. Much of the work shows daily life but some dig deeper into the feelings and experiences of each individual artist.

The work is by students at an art school in La Valle which is very near to Sa-K-La-K-Wel where Indy Convergence worked while they were there. The paintings were on display during their final show in Haiti, and they’re hoping to foster an ongoing relationship with this other art school.

The proceeds from the paintings will go straight back to the artists in Haiti.

Swing by on Friday to see some amazing art, drink some delicious Indiana craft beer, and we’ll of course be joined by DJ Jackola and friends. We’re a go from 6pm – 10pm. Murphy Arts Center Rm. 202.

If you’re on Facebook, check out Indy Convergence’s Facebook Page.
