Bloomington Craft Beer Week & Festival

Welcome to the 3rd Annual Bloomington Craft Beer Week! There are many things going on this week, but the first thing we want to cover is the Bloomington Craft Beer Festival.

When: Saturday, April 13 4-7 pm
Where: Woolery Mill, 2200 Tapp Rd, Bloomington, IN 47403
Cost: General Admission – $35 in advance, $45 at the door
VIP – $50 available online only here.

Three years ago, the Brewers of Indiana Guild, along with support with Bloomington breweries, Upland Brewing Co and Bloomington Brewing Co, started the Bloomington Craft Beer Fest. The intent was to make available festivals at different times of the year, and in different parts of the state, in order to spread the good word of local craft beer to folks who couldn’t make it to Indianapolis for the Microbrewers’ Festival in July or Winterfest in January. We are now celebrating our third year at the Woolery Mill, an old mill that has become a rustic yet comfortable backdrop for this festival.

This festival is for beer enthusiasts of all levels, and we’re happy to enjoy not only the company of our fellow Hoosier breweries, but also our craft brewing friends from other states. Woolery Mill provides not only a great backdrop of enjoying local brews, local musicians, and local foods, but if the weather turns, the majority of the event is inside the mostly enclosed building.

This year also marks the first ever Bloomington Craft Beer Week: a glorious pre-party celebration the week prior to the festival, April 6 – April 13. We’ll be hitting the town, so keep your eyes peeled for the Upland crew to be visiting a bar near you.

Stay tuned at our website, our Facebook page, and our Twitter feed for details on our various Craft Beer Week events, details on beers we’re tapping at the festival, and other surprises we have in store for you. Hope to see you there!

You can find up to date information on the Bloomington Craft Beer Week Facebook page and the Brewers of Indiana Guild Website.

Second Annual Midwest Sour Wild Funk Fest

April 2, 2013 – Upland Brewing Company today announced they are hosting their second annual Sour Wild Funk Fest, the Midwest’s premier wild ale festival, on Saturday, May 11, 1:00-5:00pm, at Developer Town, 5255 Winthrop Ave, Indianapolis, IN. This year over 20 breweries will be included from across the country and world, with over 50 beers to enjoy.

The focus of this festival is to celebrate the wild ale category of beers, focused exclusively on Lambic, Flanders, Farmhouse, and Saison style beers and ales. These beers are finely and carefully crafted, taking months and sometimes years to produce. Some have a distinct tart or sour flavors, other have vinous qualities, while other have uniquely funky characteristics. This rapidly growing category of beers has had a tremendous impact on the craft beer community, and Upland is directly in the midst of that trend.

A VIP presentation, discussion, and tasting will also be included featuring Head Brewer Caleb Staton speaking about the history and process for brewing wild beers. As part of this, participants will be tasting beers not otherwise available at the event.

VIP tickets are $60, General Admission is $45, and both include a commemorative sampling glass, and samplings of delicious craft wild ales, with paired meats, cheeses, fruits, and desserts provided by event partner Smoking Goose Meatery. Designated Driver tickets will also be available and include food and non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, April 3rd at midnight and can be purchased at www.UplandSourFest.eventbrite.com.

Other partners include Kahn’s Fine Wines and Spirits, Twenty Tap, and Great Fermentation Home Brew Supply. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will receive proceeds from the event.

Vinyl Tap – A Rye Pale Ale for Record Store Day

We love music and love Record Store Day. So, in honor of this year’s RSD, we’ve decided to brew a rye pale ale and call it Vinyl Tap. How can you get your hands on it??

Vinyl Tap will be available only on draft at Upland locations and will be tapped on April 12. However, on Record Store Day, which is April 20th, Landlocked Music in Bloomington and Luna Music in Indy will be serving Vinyl Tap at their RSD parties.

Additionally, Landlocked Music and Upland are partnering up to raise some moolah. 10% of all Vinyl Tap Sales as well as donations received at the RSD parties and part of Landlocked’s RSD sales will be given back to support local arts and music in the community. Boom!

Can’t wait to hear your feedback on the beer and can’t wait to see you our supporting your local record stores!

Champagne Velvet Release Party

Be a part of history as we relaunch the state’s most beloved beer of all time, Champagne Velvet, in the city of its origin, Terre Haute IN. Join us on Saturday, April 6 as this much anticipated beer will again become available to residents of the Wabash Valley, and shortly thereafter far beyond.

To celebrate the occasion Upland will release CV by hauling kegs of the BEER with the million dollar flavor by horse-drawn beer wagon through the streets of Terre Haute, in much the same manner it was delivered one hundred years ago. First delivery will be at Sonka Irish Pub, 3:00pm, next stop The Copper Bar, and a final destination of M. Moggers Restaurant and Pub arriving at 6:00pm, where the party will continue into the night.

The entire Upland extended family is very excited to celebrate 15 amazing years in the best way we know how, with a high-quality beer in hand. CV for you, CV for me!

Campside Summer Session Ale

All hail summertime! It can’t seem to get here fast enough. So, we thought we’d take the time to introduce our new creation. After all, nothing goes better with summer than pairing it with a perfect golden ale. Introducing Campside Summer Session Ale coming to taps and shelves near you in May 2013.

This crisp golden ale is built on the foundation of delicate light malts. This allows us to showcase some of the most interesting and effervescent American hops in a way we have never before done. We saved over 75% of the hops used in this recipe to add after the batch was boiled, allowing the distinct fragrance of grapefruit, apricot and pine to be preserved as much as possible in the finished beer. With a crisp subtle bitterness, a refreshingly light malt character, and relatively low ABV, Campside is the perfect warm weather beverage for those who think flavor is just as important as refreshment!

Champagne Velvet Treasure Hunt

Leading up to the April 6 Champagne Velvet launch extravaganza in the streets of Terre Haute, we’ve been running a photo contest incorporating CV memorabilia. If you have any CV memorabilia, or you run across any, snap some Instagram photos and tag us @uplandbrewco with hashtag #CVMemory.

We’re taking photos until midnight April 1. The lucky winner will receive an incredible CV gift basket along with VIP access and treatment at the CV Launch Party in Terre Haute. So be sure you’re following us on Twitter & Instagram (@uplandbrewco) and subscribing to our Facebook feed. If you’re not on any of those social networks, feel free to email me your CV photo at lindsay@uplandbeer.com.

May the one with the greatest treasure and creativity win!
