We’ve partnered with Exhibit Columbus and renowned architect, Kulapat Yantrasast, to celebrate the upcoming Exhibit Columbus art installations with a commemorative beer stein. Starting August 17, these one-of-a-kind steins, crafted by Louisville Stoneware, will be available for purchase at our Columbus Pump House location and online.
“I wanted to make something simple and practical, yet one that people long to touch and to hold. The inspiration comes from the hybrid of Henry Moore’s Large Arch, blended with form from classic water towers one finds throughout Indiana and the American Heartland. I think it speaks about the roots in the land of Columbus, as well as its remarkable cultural vision,” said Yantrasast.
Beginning August 26, Exhibit Columbus’ 18 art installations that reflect the city’s rich architectural history will be on display through the end of November. Part of that rich history is our Pump House location, which sits on the White River just past the iconic red suspension bridge entering the city. The 115-year-old building used to pump the city’s drinking water and has served a variety of community needs ever since. Now, as a restaurant and brewpub featuring award-winning craft beers and seasonal menus, that will be gathering spot for residents, tourists, and designers and architects during this exciting exhibition.
“A partnership with Kulapat Yantrasast, Louisville Stoneware, and Upland is a design dream come true. The steins are both works of art and keepsakes that exemplify the thriving design spirit of our community,” said Richard McCoy, Director of Landmark Columbus.
Kulapat Yantrasast was named one of the art world’s 100 Most Powerful People in 2012. His galleries and designs can be found across the world from Los Angeles to Grand Rapids to Japan as well as his birthplace of Thailand. During his work on the Speed Art Museum, Yantrasast built a relationship with Louisville Stoneware, one of the country’s oldest businesses, where a limited quantity of 300 commemorative steins are being produced. The steins will only be available at our Columbus Pump House location and the Wood Shop Sour Ale Brewery and Brewpub in nearby Bloomington.

These 2017 commemorative steins will be ready for purchase on August 17 for $45 at a launch event at the Pump House. All profits from the stein sales will go to Exhibit Columbus.
