We know that we’re in the full throws of summer, but we’re already starting to think about Autumn. Labor Day weekend is always a great way for friends and family to wind down the summer and get ready for the Fall. Here at Upland, we like to throw a good party. Hillbilly Haiku is a yearly celebration that takes place at our 11th Street Tap House, celebrating some of our favorite music and raises money for one of our favorite causes, the Sycamore Land Trust. We’re very excited to welcome TV Mike and the Scarecrowes, Jason Wilber, and headliner Houndmouth to the stage.
TV Mike and the Scarecrowes are no stranger to Hillbilly Haiku having played at Upland before. Although these Midwestern natives have transplanted to the Bay Area, they still carry their soulful rock sound we know and love. Check out their blog at Bravescarecrow.com/blog. If you can’t get enough of them, they’ll be making an appearance later that weekend at WARMFest in Indianapolis.
If you haven’t heard of Jason Wilber then you just haven’t been listening. No stranger to the road, Jason has traveled and played with Upland friend Todd Snider, as well as John Prine and Iris DeMent. He has performed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Austin City Lights, and The Late Show with David Letterman. His sound is best described as a blend of rock, folk, jazz and country. Founded in 2011, Houndmouth has been hitting the scene hard. Having just played Forecastle this past weekend, they will also join the illustrious list of bands who play Lollapalooza in early August. Their independent rock sounds, highlighted by a touch of country and folk, makes them an excellent addition to Hillbilly Haiku. You can sign up for their mailing list at but we recommend checking out their Facebook page for their tour schedule and great videos from their shows.
Hillbilly Haiku tickets are on sale now for $10, $15 day of show. Tickets are for sale at all of our retail locations, including our 11th Street Tap House, Westside Tasting Room, Carmel Tap House, and Indianapolis Tasting Room as well as on-line BUY HERE.
All proceeds will go to the Sycamore Land Trust, a conservation organization that strives to protect the natural heritage of southern Indiana. They have been our partners in Hillbilly Haiku since the beginning. We will also have delicious food, courtesy of our great Tap House kitchen, and of course, cold tasty brew.
