On Saturday May 25th, the boys in Team Upland Cycling made their way to Ft. Wayne to participate in the Fort 4 Fitness Twilight Crit. The 60-minute race featured 6 turns around a .6-mile loop weaving through the heart of downtown Ft. Wayne. Team Upland showed up in full force with up to 10 riders in the Cat 3 and Cat 1/2/3 races, not too mention an Upland van supplying tasty brews post-race.

The course’s structure promised a quick pace, and the riders did not disappoint. Within a few laps, the first break featured 3 of our riders. With a solid strategy in mind, Team Upland was able to maintain a strong presence throughout the field and within the break.

As the break continued to increase their distance from the peloton, Team Upland’s chances at the number one position grew with each passing lap.

The finish line is just around the bend. Only a few turns left for what was going to be a sprint to the finish. Our boys in the break had worked so hard all race for this final moment and just as they take the final two turns, a rival racer seemed to kick it up that final notch to steal first place. An exciting finish that included our very own Ryan Shean and Kyle Perry placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Team Upland rounded out the top 10 with Drew Otte in 6th, Chad Tieman in 7th and Peter Gray in 10th. A great finish to a great day of cycling.

Of course it wouldn’t be Team Upland without a few post-race Upland Campside Summer Ales to top it all off. Stay tuned for the next TU-Update, and until then, you can always follow Team Upland on their Facebook page: Team Upland Cycling.
