Beer List
Juiced In Time
IPA – New England
Side Trail Series — Juiced in Time is a New England-style IPA that’s absolutely dripping with ripe tropical fruit and bold juicy citrus flavors. Wheat and oats were added to the malt profile along with a special mineral treatment to the water to create body and smooth texture. Virtually all the hops were reserved for after the boil to minimize bitterness and amplify flavor and aroma. From the glowing orange appearance to the soft creamy mouthfeel and delicate sweetness, this beer is
everything delicious about tropical fruit juice embodied in a dangerously drinkable IPA.
Bad Elmer’s Porter
Porter – American
Bad Elmer’s Porter is a medium-bodied beer, brewed with lot of roasted malt, giving it flavors of coffee, liquorice, and chocolate. This porter is characteristically dark but extremely smooth.
Campside Pale Ale
Pale Ale – American
Showcasing the most effervescent American hops, our Campside Pale Ale profiles the distinct fragrance of grapefruit, apricot, and pine. With a crisp but subtle bitterness and a refreshingly light malt character, this is the perfect year-round beverage for those who think flavor is just as important as refreshment.
Upland Wheat Ale
Wheat Beer – Witbier
Upland Wheat Ale is a classic rendition of the Belgian Witbier (white beer) style. We brew it with organic coriander and orange zest to be light on the tongue and refreshingly tart. In the tradition of the Belgian Wit style, Upland Wheat Ale is unfiltered, creating a cloudy, golden appearance and satisfying mouthfeel.
Champagne Velvet
Pilsner – German
A pre-Prohibition style German lager brewed from a 1902 recipe from the original Terre Haute Brewing Co. in Southern Indiana. Refreshingly light pilsner body with some sweet complexities given off by the corn malt used in this recipe make this the perfect summer lager.
2013 Indiana Brewers Cup Silver Medal Winner
Dragonfly IPA
IPA – American
Our Dragonfly India Pale Ale is brewed with four hop additions to create a powerful hop profile. A solid malt base, however, tempers the bitter American hops, giving Dragonfly a balance not often found in this style. The end product is a well-balanced, malty beer with the crisp taste of hops and an exceptionally floral nose
Too Chilly For Schwartz
Schwarzbier
Black with a foamy tan head, crisp and refreshing like a German pilsner, soft roasty chocolate backdrop.
Patio Cat
Pale Ale – American
Patio Cat is everyone’s favorite companion on long summer days. Lo-cal & sessionable, this summer ale boasts strong flavors of citrusy tropical hops that are complemented by a succulent dose of guava. Always down for a chill sesh but definitely ready to run wild too, Patio Cat is thirst-quenching & refreshing with light body & minimal bitterness.
Hazy Harvest (2023)
IPA – Imperial
Each year we brew a slightly different version of our Harvest Ale. We’ve tried different malts, different hop varieties, higher and lower alcohol percentages, but one thing that remains constant is our use of fresh whole-cone hops, which are added to the brew no more than 24 hours after harvest. In the past, we’ve had specific varieties of hops shipped overnight from Washington or Oregon, but in recent years we’ve chosen to reduce our carbon footprint while supporting local farmers by selecting hops grown here in Indiana. For this year’s Harvest IPA, we’ve chosen a blend of American hop varieties, Cascade and Michigan Copper, grown only a stone’s-throw West of Indianapolis at Tiger Claw Hop Farm. We sent some of our brewers to help with the harvest on a Sunday afternoon. The hops were steeping in our hop back by 11 am the following day.
This year’s base recipe is an Imperial Juicy/Hazy IPA. Think of this as a bigger, bolder, higher ABV version of Juiced in Time with the added layer of fresh, green, resinous flavor from the whole cone hop addition. To supplement the fresh hop flavor, this beer was double dry hopped with Citra and Galaxy hops for the intense tropical and citrus character that Juicy/Hazy IPA’s are known for.
SentinAle
Farmhouse Ale – Other
SentinAle is a collaboration between several local breweries: Upland, Bloomington Brewing Company, The Tap, Switchyard, Quaff On, Metalworks, and Feed Store with the Conservation Law Center (CLC) to help inform local residents about the Southern Indiana Sentinel Landscape partnership program. This initiative connects landowners to financial and technical assistance for conservation projects to support rural working landscapes, conserve our natural resources, and ensure the long term sustainability of our military installations.
Basically, this is free money for private landowners over a vast swath of the state (tens of thousands of acres) to help better their land through forest management, habitat preservation and restoration, soil improvement, and watershed protections. Our partnership with the CLC will help ensure that these funds don’t go unused by helping to spread awareness of the program to local landowners.
Each brewery created their own version of this brew with a few things in common: a grain bill which includes locally malted spelt (an ancient relative of wheat) and triticale (a hybrid of wheat and rye) from Sugar Creek Malt in Lebanon Indiana, and the brewer’s choice of a Saison or Farmhouse yeast.
Upland’s take on this beer is fermented with a spicy/citrusy French Saison yeast, dry hopped with locally grown Copper hops from Tiger Claw Hop Farm in Crawfordsville, then blended with a small portion of Basis, our oak aged sour blonde ale.
Razz Cherry Beret
Sour – Fruited
Our Tart Series is a way for us to utilize our extensive experience in brewing sour ales in a way that maximizes drinkability without skimping on flavor.
Each tart recipe (Two of Tarts, Petal to the Kettle, Modern Tart, and now Razz Cherry Beret) is built to showcase fruits and/or spices and other botanicals with the backdrop of a crisp, mildly acidic kettle-soured ale.
Razz Cherry Beret features raspberry and cherry purees sourced from our Oregon Fruit, our most trusted fruit supplier. The addition of fruit late in the fermentation helps ensure that as little of the fresh fruit flavor and aroma is lost during the process.
A small amount of lactose is added to the boil to bolster a creamy mouthfeel and to restore a hint of residual sweetness lost from the raspberry and cherry during fermentation.
Oktoberfest
Märzen
No season is as synonymous with beer as autumn, when the most storied beer festival of them all, Oktoberfest, takes place in Munich, Germany. Since 1810, this celebration of good food, good company, and, most importantly, good beer, has most prominently featured Marzen-style lager–so much so that many refer to the beer simply as Oktoberfest.
Our Oktoberfest is a traditional Bavarian lager featuring all-German malts and rare German hops. This dedication to authenticity produces a beer that would be as at home in Munich as it is here in the Midwest United States. The aroma is authentic, the taste sweet and malty, and the finish crisp and hoppy; perfect for a beautiful fall day!
Breaking Away
Sour – Fruited Gose
We chose ingredients that were undeniably refreshing: ginger and lemon. To amplify this thirst-quenching quality we chose a locally sourced yeast strain that produces a mild tartness to this finished beer. To soften that tartness and add a touch of electrolytes, we included a small amount of pink Himalayan sea salt. Refreshingly session-able, Breaking Away is the perfect post-ride quencher.
Hoosier Gameday Lager
Lager – Vienna
Hoosier Gameday Lager was created as the first ever IU Athletics branded beer. We surveyed over 10,000 IU fans aged 21+ to determine the name, can design and key attributes of the beer itself. This recipe is a reflection of the those preferences: a crisp, drinkable, but still flavorful lager with a moderate, sessionable level of alcohol. It’s a classically smooth & refreshing beer.
Hoosier Gameday Lager can be classified as a Vienna Lager. The easy way to think of this style is that it falls in between a pilsner like Champagne Velvet, and a richer, more malty lager like Oktoberfest. Far from the cheap light lagers consumed by the gallon that are stereotypically associated with sporting events, this recipe incorporates two base malts kilned and toasted to differing levels of richness, three more flavorful specialty malts to create a layering of subtle toasty and slightly caramel flavor along with two different hop varieties for a light floral, earthy background note.
The result is a beer that strikes the perfect balance of delicious malty goodness and refreshing drinkability. The Vienna malt that creates the bulk of the flavor for this brew was malted and toasted to perfection by Indiana’s own Sugar Creek Malt in the Hoosier state.
Little Dragon
IPA – Session
Little Dragon Low-Cal IPA Year Round IPA Often, we’d love to be able to have one more beer but not more intoxication, more of a hangover, or more of a waistline. Little Dragon Lo-Cal IPA is designed to fulfill the strongest cravings of hop lovers while making it easier to drink responsibly and still be satisfied. Our use of oats, wheat, carapils, and crystal malt combined with a firm but balanced bitterness gives Little Dragon the unmistakable feel of a true IPA. In addition, this beer utilizes a combination of well-loved American hops like Columbus, Cascade, and Centennial and a new and much sought-after variety, Strata. And with a dry hop quantity equal to its big brother Dragonfly but with less malt to get in the way, you can expect a potent and enticing expression of hop flavor and aroma.
Two of Tarts
Sour – Fruited Gose
Two of Tarts is a tropical gose that delivers vibrant flavors and aromas of passion fruit and mango with hints of zesty lemon. Its refreshing acidity is rounded out by a hint of salt. The result? A dry, crisp finish that’s sure to make a doubly pleasant citrus impression.
Guava
Sour – Fruited
This beer was developed through extensive experimentation by our brewers with different and rare fruits. The aroma is sweet and musky with intense tropical notes of papaya, passion fruit, melon, and ripe pear. They are considered to be the sweetest of all guava varieties yet have a moderate acidity.
Raspberry
Sour – Fruited
Raspberry is a fruited sour ale that showcases the distinct fruit characteristics of whole fresh red raspberries melded with a mildly tart base of sour ale. It showcases a reddish hue with a pink foam that appears upon pouring and zesty amounts of carbonation. Fresh raspberry aromas meld with floral and wine-like notes. Its wonderful rich raspberry flavors follow in taste, accompanied by refreshing tartness. The finish is dry with mouthwatering tanginess and raspberry flavor.
Peach
Sour – Fruited
Aged on our mildly tart base blonde sour ale, Peach is a fruited sour ale made with whole peaches locally sourced from Huber’s Orchard and Winery. Gold and straw colors shine upon pouring, with zesty amounts of carbonation. Fresh peach aromas meld with floral and wine-like notes. Wonderful peach flavors follow in the taste, accompanied by refreshing tartness. The finish is dry with mouthwatering tanginess and peach flavor.
