How do you do St. Patrick’s Day? At Upland, we don’t believe in green beer, but we were excited to when a green bus visited us a few weeks ago.

The Dew & a Brew Tour, sponsored by Time Out, stopped by Upland’s Wood Shop as part of their nationwide tour to explore the best craft beer and Tullamore D.E.W. pairings leading up to St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago. A few of our brewers and Tullamore D.E.W. brand ambassador Jane Maher exchanged notes on the tradition and expectations for the pairings.

From the Wood Shop, we headed over to our friends at the Irish Lion and sampled some Upland beer and whiskey pairings with snacks. On the menu was Champagne Velvet paired with Tullamore D.E.W. Original, Peach with Tullamore D.E.W. 12 Year, and our Irish Stout with Tullamore D.E.W.’s Trilogy, which is aged for 15 years.

Everyone was surprised—even us—by how well the pairings complemented each other. Champagne Velvet was a crisp, refreshing counterpart to the Original. Trilogy was a smooth, amazing treat that brought forward incredible complexities of our Irish Stout. The surprise of the night might have been Peach paired with the Tullamore D.E.W. 12 Year. The combination made quite the impression with oak flavors mingling and pronounced fruit flavors on the palate.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from your friends at Upland! Get in the spirit by trying a D.E.W. and an Upland pairing this week and letting us know what you think.
