We partnered with Mims Distribution out of Raleigh to bring our sour ales to North Carolina. Beginning the week of August 21, fans can enjoy the release of Hopsynth, Iridescent, and Cherry.

“It’s clear that the increasing number of sour beer admirers in North Carolina have been anticipating the arrival of Upland Brewing. Upland is renowned in the Midwest for its innovative take on barrel-aged and blended sours. We are excited that the brewery’s expansion plans include North Carolina, and we’re ready to start sharing Upland’s lineup with sour lovers in our area,” said Chip Mims, CEO of Mims Distribution.

Hopsynth is our only sour ale that is dry-hopped, and this latest batch uses Citra and El Dorado hops, giving a flavor profile of fresh hops melded with tartness from the blonde sour base. Iridescent was inspired out of collaborative feedback from staff and regulars as brewers experimented with unique ingredient combinations. A pairing of dried apricots and gingers was chosen to age for 3-4 months in oak foeders, providing a tart, tropical, and refreshing blonde sour ale.

“The beers we’re bringing to North Carolina are representative of our growing sours portfolio. Whether it’s experimenting with various hop varieties, or fruit and herb combinations, or putting a twist on a traditional whole fruit blend, we want fans here to experience wood-aged sours like they never have before,” said Dusty Howe, Upland Sours Brand Manager.

Back in 2006, when we first began our love affair with sours, whole cherries were one of the first fruits selected to add to the base beer that had been in fermentation for 8 months in white oak barrels. We source Montmorency Cherries from King Orchards in northern Michigan, which age an additional 3 months before the beer is bottled and kegged. Cherry pours a rich red with cherries dominating the aroma, with hints of wine and cider. This beer recently received a 95 rating from Beer Connoisseur Magazine.

There will be a tasting event on Monday, August 21 at House of Hops in Raleigh from 6-8pm, with members of the Upland team present. All three wood-aged sours will be available on draught in select bars and restaurants. Hopsynth and Iridescent can be found in 500 ml bottles and Cherry in 750 ml bottles in select shops.
