Have you ever thought about riding your bike to work, but you didn’t know where to start? This Friday, May 17, is National Bike To Work Day, and we think it is the best time to get started!
National Bike To Work Day is a celebration: we celebrate a great alternative way of transportation while also exploring your city and helping the environment. In 1956, the League of American Bicyclists started Bike To Work Day which has since expanded to Bike To Work Month around the country.
We’re celebrating Bike To Work Day by teaming up with Bloomingfoods and the Bloomington Bicycle Club by holding a Block Party. Located at the northwest side Bloomingfoods at 6th & Madison, DJ Graham Cracker Crust and the 1,2,3’s will perform, and we will have games and prizes, and of course Upland Beer. Everything starts at 5:30 pm and proceeds from the event will benefit the Bloomington Bicycle Club. You can find more information about the Block Party on the Bloomingfoods Website.
The Bloomington Bicycle Club is a bicycling advocacy group that provides local bike programming by organizing rides, encouraging bicycling for recreation, transportation, and competition, and promoting bicycle safety. Members of the club will be on hand to answer your questions about bicycle commuting and planning your own route. Check out their website for more details on their club at BloomingtonBicycleClub.org
If you are in Indianapolis, check in with IndyCog.org for their scheduled activities for Bike To Work Day.
