National Bike To Work Day

Have you ever thought about riding your bike to work, but you didn’t know where to start? This Friday, May 17, is National Bike To Work Day, and we think it is the best time to get started!

National Bike To Work Day is a celebration: we celebrate a great alternative way of transportation while also exploring your city and helping the environment. In 1956, the League of American Bicyclists started Bike To Work Day which has since expanded to Bike To Work Month around the country.

We’re celebrating Bike To Work Day by teaming up with Bloomingfoods and the Bloomington Bicycle Club by holding a Block Party. Located at the northwest side Bloomingfoods at 6th & Madison, DJ Graham Cracker Crust and the 1,2,3′s will perform, and we will have games and prizes, and of course Upland Beer. Everything starts at 5:30 pm and proceeds from the event will benefit the Bloomington Bicycle Club. You can find more information about the Block Party on the Bloomingfoods Website.

The Bloomington Bicycle Club is a bicycling advocacy group that provides local bike programming by organizing rides, encouraging bicycling for recreation, transportation, and competition, and promoting bicycle safety. Members of the club will be on hand to answer your questions about bicycle commuting and planning your own route. Check out their website for more details on their club at BloomingtonBicycleClub.org

20130422_190221

April 23, 2013 — Upland Brewing Company has announced the grand opening of its Carmel Tap House on April 27th, with doors opening at 11:00 am. The facility is located at 820 E. 116th Street, between College Avenue and Guilford Road. Similar to the original Bloomington Brewpub, the Tap House features a full lineup of Upland’s craft beers, a menu of made-from-scratch dishes using locally sourced ingredients, and indoor and patio seating.

As part of the celebration, Upland friends and family will gather around noon at the Broad Ripple Tasting Room, 4842 N. College Ave., for beer drinking and bicycle decorating. This will be followed at 1:30 pm by an eight mile bicycle parade and party up the Monon Trail, ending at the Carmel location where the gang will be welcomed for ceremonial pouring of pints.

“With each location we stumble into, we just tap some kegs and hope for the best,” said Upland President Doug Dayhoff. “If all goes well, the Tap House will convert more people on the north side to drinking high quality craft beers from local brewers, versus light beers from big corporations.”

Upland brews over thirty ales, lagers, and sour beers that are distributed throughout Indiana and in parts of Kentucky, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The brewery has won numerous awards at regional, national, and international competitions, and had two beers recently recognized in the Top 40 Craft Beers of 2012 by The Full Pint. Upland is also the first brewery to be recognized by the State of Indiana as an “Indiana Artisan.”

Other Upland locations include the Broad Ripple Tasting Room at 4842 N. College Avenue in Indianapolis, the Bloomington Brewpub at 350 W. 11th Street, and the Bloomington Brewery and Tasting Room located at 4060 Profile Parkway.

Second Annual Midwest Sour Wild Funk Fest

April 2, 2013 – Upland Brewing Company today announced they are hosting their second annual Sour Wild Funk Fest, the Midwest’s premier wild ale festival, on Saturday, May 11, 1:00-5:00pm, at Developer Town, 5255 Winthrop Ave, Indianapolis, IN. This year over 20 breweries will be included from across the country and world, with over 50 beers to enjoy.

The focus of this festival is to celebrate the wild ale category of beers, focused exclusively on Lambic, Flanders, Farmhouse, and Saison style beers and ales. These beers are finely and carefully crafted, taking months and sometimes years to produce. Some have a distinct tart or sour flavors, other have vinous qualities, while other have uniquely funky characteristics. This rapidly growing category of beers has had a tremendous impact on the craft beer community, and Upland is directly in the midst of that trend.

A VIP presentation, discussion, and tasting will also be included featuring Head Brewer Caleb Staton speaking about the history and process for brewing wild beers. As part of this, participants will be tasting beers not otherwise available at the event.

VIP tickets are $60, General Admission is $45, and both include a commemorative sampling glass, and samplings of delicious craft wild ales, with paired meats, cheeses, fruits, and desserts provided by event partner Smoking Goose Meatery.
